Updates to Google Ads: Say Goodbye to Expanded Text Ads
Technical Updates to Google Ads: Say Goodbye to Expanded Text Ads
As of the 30th June 2022, Google Ads users will no longer be able to create or edit expanded text ads.
This comes as Google ads move towards a more diverse and flexible ad setup. Favouring the responsive ad.
Will Expanded Text Ads still work?
Yes, the expanded text ads that are running before the 30th of June, will continue to be served once the change has been made. However, if you wish to change any information included in these, that will not be possible.
Do I need to set up Responsive Ads?
Google is recommending that you have a least 1 responsive ad in each ad group you have. That way your ads will continue running and reaching Google users.
What is good about Responsive Ads?
This kind of ad is great for learning about your audience. You can create 1 responsive ad, which includes many ad structure options, as you provide multiple options for Google to choose from. As it serves your responsive ad, it will continuously learn and evaluate which headlines and descriptions work best.
How can I prepare for this change?
- Repurpose the content in your expanded text ads and use them in your responsive ads
- Use the ‘ad strength’ indicator- this will help you to create effective campaigns
- Make use of recommendations from Google, these can help you improve or add to your responsive ads
- Pin headlines and descriptions that you want to always be shown, these are great if you want to focus on something specific e.g. big sale, offer
- Use ad variations that can help to identify which versions of your ads are the best. By testing and reviewing the performance of each
