Top 10 Things to Bring to your Initial Website Chat with SO

News Top 10 Things to Bring to your Initial Website Chat with SO

What SO to create your new website? Awesome! But before you get in touch, we ask all our potential clients to bring a few things with them to their initial meeting with our team…

At SO, websites are our thing. We design them, build them, and support them as they grow. We’ve got clients across the UK, and internationally who trust us to create websites that push boundaries, yet are still functional.

But, if you haven’t worked with us before, then Hello! We cannot wait for our relationship to grow. But, before our first ‘meeting’, we ask all our clients to look over the 10 points below. What to bring to your first chat with the team at SO.

Website content.

The first is quite practical, your website’s content. If you already have a website & want this to move over to the new site, then great. However, if you’re thinking of changing how your website is structured, a list of pages and their content would be great. Nothing needs to be finalised, but this content allows our designers to understand how pages need to look, to display your content.

Inspiration.

This one may take a little more time but browse lots of different websites. These websites can be within your industry, or completely unrelated. Navigate around a website, and ask yourself, is it easy to find what you’re looking for? Do you like the way the website looks? Can you get in touch with the business? Are there any design elements that you love? Coming with lots of inspiration gives our designers an understanding of what you like.

A story of the brand.

The history and story behind your business give our designers valuable insight. What information you provide about your business can inform how we structure the site, imagery, visually how the site looks, and how it works.

Competitors.

To better understand your industry, seeing your competitor’s websites gives us great insight into your industry. Not only what is the norm within your industry, but what websites ‘usually’ include. This could be a menu, your accreditations, or an interaction calculator. These will all need to be accounted for during the design process to ensure your website is fit for purpose.

Vision.

This one is a little different from ‘inspiration’. Vision is more ‘how’ you see your website working, and how you want your customers to use your website. What do you want them to achieve? It’s also important to consider the admin side of the website. Are there certain things that you want to be able to do in the admin e.g. track orders or track leads?

Trust.

We understand that website projects take time and cost money. Many of our clients have built their business from an initial idea to a company with many employees. This tends to mean that business owners are protective of their brand, and don’t like change.

However, we have over 14 years of experience in the industry. We have worked with a whole range of businesses, that come from various industries. With each client, we understand they are unique, and work closely with them to create a website that works for them. What we require in return is that our clients trust our expertise and skills to complete the project which you’re happy with.

An idea of a budget.

Now it’s time for money talk. Businesses deal with talking about money differently, but at SO we’re upfront and honest. Our services cost money, and this money allows us to pay our team so that they come to work and do an awesome job.

Based on what you want from your new website, we’ll give you an initial approximate cost. But when clients come to us with a budget in mind, this is great, because it allows us to give you an idea of what is possible for this budget. From the very start, we can work together to scope the project, remaining within your budget & delivering on what you need for this.

An open mind

We’ve had numerous clients who come to us with an idea, and by the end of the project, the website looks nothing like the initial idea. Our team has a wealth of experience and knowledge.

We encourage all of our clients to take full advantage of this and take on suggestions and recommendations from our designers and developers. Our team may challenge you along the way, and even push back. But, we do this so that all of our clients are 100% happy with the end product, and it fulfills their needs as a business.

A realistic time frame.

We’d love to be able to create awesome websites in a month, but unfortunately, this just isn’t possible. Our team doesn’t skip corners, and we work through each stage of the process ensuring our client has enough time to make important decisions. We also provide a smooth switchover process, where our team supports the client and their website a month after launch. Depending on your website, our websites can take anywhere from 6 months to a year from initial conversation to launch.

Regular communication.

To get on with designing and developing your website, we require feedback from our clients throughout the project. This enables our team to either move forward onto the next step or revise an aspect, make amends and send it back over to you. It’s always better than this constant communication comes from either 1 or 2 people in a business. Preferably, people who have influence and who regularly work. Meaning we can get clear feedback in a timely fashion so that the project stays on track.
