News Magento 2.0 Awakens

The Marketing Force Is Strong in This One

Originally released for a beta period almost a year ago in December 2014, Magento’s latest ecommerce platform, Magento 2.0, is now available for general merchant use. The ecommerce platform’s first major update since its launch back in March 2008, the new software promises a more user friendly interface, a host of new options for customisation, and generally a more efficient means of getting your products to the burgeoning digital market. With all this is mind, should you be rushing to the shiny green download button? Check out our Magento 2.0 overview to find out.

The Return of the Magento Platform

Of course, jumbled within the list of Magento 2.0 features are loads of abbreviations like CSS and HTML that you pay us to understand, so we’re not going to waste your valuable ‘dossing at work’ time with them – instead we’re providing the whistle stop tour of Magento 2.0, and just how it can benefit ecommerce retailers.

As an open source platform, the focus of the ecommerce software has always been placed firmly on customisability and user friendliness, with the Magento 2.0 update being no exception. Thanks to a streamlined user interface (hereby referred to as ‘UI’) and a more modular backend architecture, adding new product lines, expanding upon old ones and generally managing stock-lists has never been easier or quicker – so what does this mean for today’s ecommerce retailer? In a nutshell, the Magento 2.0 update empowers the non-specialist to take control of their ecommerce website.

A New Hope

The UI and general Admin area have been redesigned with the dynamic ecommerce retailer in mind; Magento appreciate your product lines are never static, and you need a responsive system to reflect this. Resultantly, adding new stock to your online catalogue is a quicker, simpler process, meaning you can take your products to market faster, without the meddling input of someone like us. The new system also has provisions in place for enhanced scalability, which means that should your ecommerce sales take off (as they are likely to do in the festive period) your website can evolve to handle the extra traffic and orders.

The Magento 2.0 platform update also comes with a host of benefits for the consumer visiting your site, including enhanced page loading times and quicker checkout functionalities. Now of course, we’re not saying your ecommerce website is going to be making the Kessler run in under 12 parsecs anytime soon, but the boost in speed and usability should be reflected in a general increase in both sales and user experience.

Come to the Ecommerce Side…

Is now the best time to upgrade to the Magento 2.0 ecommerce platform? If you’re a B2C company in the full swing of the busiest period for consumer marketing, then the phrase “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” probably comes to mind. If your current system works, and is capable of handling the increased volume of orders throughout the festive period, then stick to what you know for now. Nevertheless, if you’re looking for enhanced customisability and increased user control, the Magento 2.0 upgrade should definitely be at the top of your list of priorities for the New Year.  Get in touch!
