Setting up your Outlook 2007/2010 client to work with your email account |
Before you start:
Please ensure you know your email user name (this is usually the full email address) and password.
Italicised text is used throughout this guide to demonstrate example settings. This should not be copied directly!
Start Outlook.
Click on the “File” menu then Info, then click Add Account.
The next screen asks you for all the account information. Click 'Manually Configure Server Settings or Additional Server Types'. Choose Next, then Next on the following screen also.
Under the “User Information” heading fill in your name (or company name if you prefer) and the e-mail address you are using (e.g. info@yourdomainname.co.uk). |
In the top right of the form is the “Server Information” heading. In the same way that your website with us is found at www.yourdomainname.co.uk the “Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server” needs to be set to mail.yourdomainname.co.uk
(Please do not enter any @ symbols into the server address box).
In the “Outgoing mail (SMTP) server” box, if you know it, enter your internet service provider’s outgoing mail server. Otherwise use the same as in the incoming box to use our mail server (mail.yourdomainname.co.uk).
In the bottom right under the “Log on Information” heading the “User name” will be the user name you were given when the account was created (usually the full email address for the account, complete with @ symbol). The password will also have been supplied to you, please note the password is case sensitive.
Below this are two checkboxes, one for “Remember password” (which we recommend ticking) and one for “Log on using Secure Password Authentication” this one must be left unticked. |
If you input the mail.yourdomain.co.uk in the “Outgoing mail (SMTP) server” box then click the “More Settings” button, click on the “Outgoing Server” tab and tick the “My Outgoing Server (SMTP) requires authentication” checkbox. Then click OK.
Now click on “Next” which will take you to a list of accounts – there should be one listed with the same name as your incoming mailserver. Now click close.
Your account is now ready for use, click on the send/receive button to check your mail. |
